Common Sweden Take-Home Pay Questions

On 600,000 kr gross in 2026, take-home is around 388,000 kr a year, about 32,333 kr a month. Municipal tax of roughly 32% takes close to 160,000 kr, state income tax (20% only above about 615,300 kr) barely registers at this level, and the public pension fee is around 12,600 kr.

Swedish tax on earnings comes in two parts:
Municipal tax (kommunalskatt): set locally, averaging about 32.24% across the country
State income tax (statlig inkomstskatt): 20% on income above roughly 615,300 kr after deductions
Public pension fee: 7% up to the pension ceiling near 615,300 kr

The overall load is among the OECD's highest, but it comes bundled with wide-reaching public services.

The jobbskatteavdrag is a sizeable break on earned income. For most workers it trims municipal tax by somewhere around 25,000 to 35,000 kr a year, which shaves roughly five percentage points off the effective municipal rate. The calculator applies the standard formula for you.

The grundavdrag is a standard personal deduction that runs from about 13,100 kr at very low incomes up to roughly 40,100 kr in the 135,000 to 350,000 kr range, then eases back down higher up. The calculator picks the right grundavdrag for each income level automatically.

Employees pay a public pension fee (allmรคn pensionsavgift) of 7% on income up to about 615,300 kr, but a matching tax reduction usually cancels it out, so net pay is rarely affected. The heavy lifting on social costs is done by employers, at around 31.42%. The calculator shows both the fee and its offset.
